Learning From Disasters Workshop Introduction:

The Learning From Disasters Workshop is designed for Queensland statutory ticket holders who are required to complete 20 hours of annual professional development under the Practising Certificate Scheme.

This one-day, trainer-led workshop builds on the Learning From Disasters online modules and supports participants to strengthen safety leadership, risk awareness, and organisational learning. It is also valuable for supervisors and emerging leaders looking to play an active role in improving workplace safety culture.

Who Should Enrol:

This course is suitable for:

  • Queensland statutory ticket holders
  • Supervisors and frontline leaders
  • Emerging leaders within the resources sector
  • Participants who have completed the Learning From Disasters online modules within the last six (6) months

Course Overview:

The Learning From Disasters Workshop is delivered as a one-day face-to-face session and complements the online Learning From Disasters program.

The workshop focuses on applying lessons learned from past incidents and failures, with facilitated discussion and practical activities to support real-world application. Content aligns with key findings from the 2019 Brady Review, including principles of high reliability organisations.

Delivery includes:

  • Reinforcement of Learning From Disasters online content
  • Practical discussion around risk, safety systems, and leadership
  • Reflection on lessons learned from industry failures
  • Collaborative learning and facilitated group discussions

Prerequisites:

Participants must have successfully completed the Learning From Disasters online modules provided by SIMTARS prior to attending the face-to-face workshop. Online modules must have been completed within the previous six (6) months.

Certification:

This workshop contributes toward the mandatory 20-hour professional development requirement for statutory ticket holders under the Practising Certificate Scheme.

Training Location:

Training is delivered at the Down Under Training facility in Nexus Business Park, Paget, Mackay. Onsite workshops can also be arranged by request – please contact Down Under Training for further information.
